Sister

Rosana & Amy Cade
Performance, 2012-2015

Amy and Rosana are siblings, born exactly 22 months apart in the mid ‘80s. Amy worked in the sex industry for ten years. Rosana is a radical queer performance artist. They are both feminists. They have been working together to create ‘Sister’, a powerful and joyous performance, exploring sexual identity, feminism and choice.

Sister weaves together their autobiographical stories of growing up, contrasting sexual and performance experiences, pole dancing, lap dancing and childhood family videos in an intimate strip club setting, which they inhabit, subvert and eventually deconstruct. The performance is a bold and unflinching examination of their lives and their relationship, as they attempt to understand their own and each other’s sexual identities and how the world they grew up in together has shaped them into the people they are today. It is both challenging and joyous in its intimate investigation into complex contemporary feminist issues. Through the their stories and relationship, this unique performance opens up fresh dialogues with audiences about feminism and sex.
