Confessional
Laurie Brown & Rosana Cade
Performance, 2011
“Bless me father, for I have sinned. It has been three months since my last confession…”
As a piece of active research, two queer artists have been attending confession in different churches across Glasgow. They confessed their active desire for members of the same sex. This installation is a document of what happened.
This piece was with created by Rosana Cade and Laurie Brown for Arches Live 2011. The installation involves one person at a time entering a bespoke confession box and listening to the recording, which is playing on a loop, through headphones.
"On paper, this act of research seems a simple project. But the issues raised are complex and beyond easy answers, and as much about faith, dogma, permissions and collusion as about sexuality."
